How to Get Started with Salvaging if You Don’t Own a Salvaging Ship? #
Renting a ship
Drake Vulture: Rent price unknown, rent location unknown, not yet implemented in the game.
MISC Fortune: Rent price unknown, rent location unknown, not yet implemented in the game.
Aegis Reclaimer: Rent price unknown, rent location unknown, not yet implemented in the game.
What We Need to Start #
To begin salvaging, you’ll need:
- A Salvaging Ship
- Handheld Multi-Tool and Tractor Beam Add-On
If you don’t want to buy the handheld tractor beam or multi-tool add-on, you can craft them yourself at your ship’s salvaging output station. However, both hull scraping and munching materials must be in the internal buffer for crafting. This applies to all salvaging ships.
Where to Find Salvage #
You can find salvage almost everywhere! Opportunities include:
Missions: Both legal and illegal salvaging missions can lead to valuable finds.
◦ Legal missions
In the Contracts tab under Salvage, you can find missions where you pay to gain access to a wreck for salvaging. The more reputation you build with these contractors, the larger the ships you’ll gain access to.
However, be warned: these missions may require a significant amount of hull scraping to turn a profit, as the fees, fuel costs, and other expenses can quickly add up.
◦ Illegal missions
From the Contracts tab, you can toggle to Unverified by clicking the Verified button (it will turn red and say “Unverified”). Here, you can find salvaging missions that are less than legal.
These missions pay you to “clean up” specific ships within a time limit.
The targets can range in size, including larger ships like Hammerheads.
- Asteroid Belts: Wreckage or panels often drifts near these areas.

Mastering Salvaging Controls #
Drake vulture
Short info on how to get started :
To start salvaging in the Vulture, enter the cockpit and power on the ship.
Activate the Salvage Mode using the MISC Interaction menu or the dedicated keybind (M).
This will deploy the salvaging arms and switch the HUD to salvaging mode, allowing you to begin hull scraping.
MISC Fortune
Info :
The controls are the same as those of the Drake Vulture, making it easy to transition between the two.
Aegis Reclaimer
Info :
- Accessing Salvaging in the Aegis Reclaimer
- Hull Scraping: Stations are located behind the pilot on the left and right sides.
- Hull Munching: The seat next to the pilot.
- Turn on the Power
- Activating the Arm = Keybound = M
Hull Scraping vs. Hull Stripping #
Hull Scraping
- This process involves removing the outer layer of a ship’s hull to extract valuable materials.
- Materials from hull scraping are worth more but take longer to collect.
Hull breaking or fractur (“Munching”)
- This is a more aggressive method where entire sections of a wreck are fractured and consumed (“munched”) by your ship.
- It’s faster but yields materials of lower value.
You can perform both methods—you don’t need to scrape the hull before munching.
You can Break / Fractur the ship first and then hull scrape the materials and when you are done you can munch the parts.
Internal Buffer in Salvaging #
All Salvaging ships are equipped with an internal buffer for salvaged materials. This allows you to continue salvaging for a while before needing to access the salvage output station.
Before heading to sell your work, you can maximize efficiency by filling up your ship’s storage while keeping the buffer full. This enables you to produce additional containers to maximize your profit at the selling location.
What to Do When the Internal Buffer Is Full #
When your internal buffer is full, you’ll need to head to the salvaging output station on your ship to process the materials and create cargo containers.
Drake Vulture: The salvaging output station is located in the cargo hold.
MISC Fortune: The salvaging output station is located in the cargo hold.
When you command the MISC Fortune to create cargo containers, it automatically stores them in its external storage. Unlike the Vulture, you don’t need to manually move them.
Aegis Reclaimer: The salvaging output station is in the processing area, accessible from the main elevator deck.
For the Reclaimer and Vulture, once the cargo containers are created, use your tractor beam to move them to the storage area next to the salvaging station.
Where to sell #
To sell your salvaged materials, you need to move the cargo containers from your ship to the cargo lift or elevator at a trading hub. Once offloaded, you can sell them at Trading terminal in major locations such as Lorville, Area18, or New Babbage.
There are also many other places to sell, like GrimHex or trading outposts on moons.
However, be cautious—pirates and PvP players often target these areas for loot.
For now, it’s recommended to stay on the safe side and use secure locations.
Ship Components #
Changing the salvager head from the default is always a good idea, though it’s not essential if you’re just looking to try out or learn the basics of salvaging.
The general rule is:
- Slow but high yield
- Fast but lower yield
- Finding a balance somewhere in the middle is often considered the best
option for most situations.
- Finding a balance somewhere in the middle is often considered the best
- Vulture/Fortune
- for smaller ships = Abrade module
- The Abrade has a good balance of scraping area to efficiency.
- For bigger ships = Trawler module
- Trawler has a very wide scraping area which makes it faster, though you want a bigger target so the drop in efficiency still allows you to fill your hold.
- for smaller ships = Abrade module
- Reclaimer
- Recommended Module: Abrade module
- The Abrade module is generally the best choice for the Reclaimer due to its efficiency in most scenarios.
- Alternative Setup:
- If you don’t need a tractor beam, you can equip two different salvaging modules at the salvage stations, allowing for a more specialized setup depending on the type of wreckage you’re working on.

How to Help or Train Fellow Salvagers (For the Org) #
First Method
- If someone wants to try or learn salvaging but doesn’t have their own ship, lend them yours and be part of their crew.
- In the Drake Vulture, you can act as a guiding mentor while they learn the ropes.
- In the Aegis Reclaimer, salvaging can be done solo, but life gets much easier when working with two or more crew members.
Second Method
- On Discord, they can stream what they’re doing, and you can guide them through the process remotely. This allows you to provide real-time advice and support, helping them learn without needing to be physically in the game with them.
Third Method
- If both of you have small salvage ships, the new player can join you on missions, working alongside org mates while learning the mechanics. This way, they gain hands-on experience, and you both have fun salvaging together.
What is the Best Way?
The best approach depends on both the mentor and the student. However, it’s usually a good idea to let the student explore the options themselves, as this may be the way they learn best. Provide guidance and support while giving them the freedom to find their own rhythm.
Organization Training Days #
Idea 1: Combat and Salvaging Collaboration
Organize a training day where a combat team takes on bounty missions that generate wrecks to salvage. Once the targets are destroyed, a salvaging crew can step in to clean up the wreckage.
- Use multiple Vultures/Fortune for smaller-scale wrecks or a few Reclaimers for larger targets.
- This event encourages collaboration between combat players and industry players, allowing both to benefit from the operation.
- If any threats appear, the combat team will be nearby to provide protection for the salvagers.
This is an excellent way to create synergy between different roles while maximizing the rewards from missions.
Idea 2: Salvaging ships and Transport Ships Collaboration
Organize a training day where multiple Salvaging ships work alongside transport ships like the C2 Hercules or Caterpillar. This setup allows Vultures to focus solely on salvaging without needing to return to unload.
- The transport ships act as mobile storage, collecting containers from the Vultures and keeping the operation running efficiently.
- This method works best with larger wrecks that provide ample salvage material, minimizing the need to move frequently.
This type of collaboration maximizes salvaging efficiency and teaches players the importance of teamwork in large-scale operations.
Idea 3: Full Collaboration – Combat, Salvaging ships, and Transport Ships
Organize a large-scale training day where combat teams, Salvaging ships, and transport ships work together in a coordinated operation.
- Combat Teams: Focus on creating wrecks by engaging in bounty missions or simulated fleet battles.
- Salvaging ships: Handle salvaging operations, stripping wrecks for valuable materials.
- Transport Ships: Collect and store salvaged containers, keeping the Vultures/Fortuna operational without needing to return for unloading
This type of event is challenging to organize and requires a large number of members and a significant supply of wrecks. However, it offers an unparalleled training experience that combines all roles into one massive operation.
In the future, such collaborations may naturally occur after large fleet battles in PvP or PvE scenarios, providing ample wrecks for salvaging teams to clean up while combat teams provide protection.
Idea 4: Providing Wrecks for Training
To solve the issue of finding wrecks, players with larger ships, such as Hammerheads, can voluntarily provide them as targets for training days.
- These ships can be destroyed to create wrecks, allowing salvaging teams to practice efficiently.
- This ensures a consistent supply of large wrecks for Vultures and Reclaimers to work on during training.
- It also fosters collaboration within the organization, as players contribute to creating a realistic and productive training environment.
This approach ensures that training days are well-structured and provide plenty of opportunities for salvaging practice.
