Vehicles – Crafting, and Customization

A comprehensive guide to ground and air vehicles, customization, faction-specific variants, crafting, and passenger capacity, with reference videos and images

Crafting Fuel Cells #

To craft a Vehicle Fuel Cell for powering vehicles in Dune: Awakening, you need the following:

  • Primary Ingredients:
    • Fuel Cells (crafted from Oil at a Chemical Refinery)
    • Water
  • Crafting Station:
    • Chemical Refinery
  • Process:
    1. Craft Fuel Cells:
      • Gather Oil (or biomass) from scavenging or base production.
      • Use the Chemical Refinery to process Oil into standard Fuel Cells.
    2. Refine into Vehicle Fuel Cells:
      • Combine Fuel Cells with Water at the Chemical Refinery to produce Vehicle Fuel Cells.
    3. Usage:
      • Vehicle Fuel Cells are used to power all vehicles, including sandbikes, groundcars, ornithopters, and harvesters.

Vehicle Crafting System #

Vehicle crafting is a multi-step process that requires exploration, resource gathering, and teamwork, especially for larger vehicles:

  • Crafting Stations:
    • Vehicle Fabricator
    • Eco-Lab Fabricator
  • Core Materials:
    • Plastanium
    • Spice Melange
    • Water
    • Biomass
    • Fuel Cells
    • Metal Scraps
    • Advanced Components
  • Process:
    1. Unlock schematics by exploring Eco-Labs or completing faction missions.
    2. Gather raw materials from the environment or salvage.
    3. Use the Vehicle Fabricator to assemble vehicles from blueprints and materials.
    4. Craft modules separately and install them on vehicles for customization.
    5. Maintain vehicles by refueling with Fuel Cells and repairing damage with welding tools.
  • Notes:
    • Blueprints are essential for crafting and can be traded with other players.
    • Crafting large vehicles like Carryalls often requires group cooperation.

Unlocking Vehicle Schematics with Intel Points #

Progression in vehicle crafting is closely tied to the Intel Points and schematics system in Dune: Awakening.

How Intel Points Work #

  • Intel Points are a special currency earned by:
    • Leveling up your character
    • Exploring points of interest (POIs)
    • Clearing enemy camps
    • Activating scanning nodes
  • Intel Points are spent at the Research Terminal (found in your base or at public hubs) to unlock new schematics in the research tree, including vehicles, modules, and advanced parts.
  • The cost to unlock schematics increases for higher-tier vehicles and modules.

Types of Schematics #

  1. Researchable Schematics
    • Unlocked permanently by spending Intel Points in the research tree.
    • Once unlocked, you can craft the vehicle or module as many times as you want (provided you have the materials).
    • Examples: Sandbike, Quad Groundcar, Scout Ornithopter.
  2. Unique (One-Time-Use) Schematics
    • Discovered as loot in the world (e.g., deep desert caves, enemy camps, special POIs, or as quest rewards).
    • These schematics must be researched at a terminal and usually grant one crafting charge—meaning you can craft that unique vehicle or part only once per schematic. To craft it again, you must find another copy.
    • Unique schematics often grant access to rare or faction-specific vehicles and upgrades.

Crafting & Progression Notes #

  • Intel Point Cap: There is a practical cap on Intel Points from leveling and POIs, but additional Intel can be earned from weekly Deep Desert resets, allowing you to eventually unlock most or all standard schematics if you keep playing.
  • Strategic Choice: Because Intel is limited, especially early on, prioritize unlocking vehicles and modules that fit your playstyle or faction needs.
  • Trading: Blueprints and some unique schematics can be traded with other players, adding another layer to progression and specialization.
