Classes, Abilities, and Progression

Class System Overview #

Dune: Awakening’s class system blends lore-driven specialization with hybrid progression. Players start with one of four Mentors (classes), each tied to a School of the Imperium, and unlock a fifth (Planetologist) through early gameplay. While initial choices are permanent, players can later learn abilities from other classes, enabling hybrid builds.

Key Features:

  • No Respec: Initial class choice is permanent, but skill points can be reset.
  • Flexible Progression: Unlock abilities from all classes via NPC trainers.
  • Capstone Abilities: Ultimate skills locked behind specialization mastery.

Progression, Intel, and Schematics #

Progression in Dune: Awakening is not just about leveling up your character or unlocking new class abilities—it’s also deeply tied to the game’s Intel and Schematics system. This system governs how you unlock the blueprints needed to craft weapons, armor, vehicles, and base modules.

How Intel Works #

  • Intel is a special currency earned by leveling up, exploring points of interest (POIs), clearing enemy camps, and activating scanning nodes.
  • You spend Intel in the Research Menu (accessible at hubs or your base) to unlock new schematics in categories such as Survival, Combat, or Construction.

Schematics: Research, Discovery, and Crafting #

There are two main types of schematics in Dune: Awakening:

  1. Researchable Schematics
    • These are unlocked by spending Intel in the Research Menu.
    • Once unlocked, you can craft the item as many times as you want (as long as you have the materials).
    • Examples: Basic tools, armor, vehicles.
  2. Unique (Found) Schematics
    • These are discovered as loot in the world—such as in chests, caves, labs, or crashed ships.
    • Many unique schematics require Intel to research after you find them.
    • Important: Most unique schematics are single-use—you can craft the item only once per schematic. If you want to craft it again, you’ll need to find another copy.
    • Unique schematics can have RNG involved, creating rare items.
    • Examples: Way of the Fallen pistol schematic, Emperor’s Wings MK1.

Crafting Restrictions & Faction Locks #

  • High-tier or unique items often require rare materials (like Spice-infused alloys) found only in the Deep Desert.
  • Some schematics are restricted by faction or story progression (e.g., certain Planetologist abilities).

Progression Summary Table #

Aspect Details
Intel Sources Leveling, exploration, enemy camps, scanning nodes.
Research Costs 50–1,000+ Intel per schematic, depending on tier.
Unique Schematics Found in specific chests/POIs; one craft per schematic.
Crafting Limits High-tier items require rare Deep Desert materials (e.g., Spice Melange).
